Anti-Authors

Authors I no longer read, and why

Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman. Two people incapable of ending a story in a satisfactory manner. The first three Dragonlance novels epitomized this. I have not read the fourth Dragonlance novel because I swore off these two authors after I read The Death Gate Cycle.  Oh what a horrible seven-book series that was.  And it wasn't because the individual books were bad!  It was the mere, tiny fact that the seventh(!) book, after all that time devoted to reading those novels, ended in a less-than-satisfying manner.  Argh!

Piers Anthony.  As I mentioned on my Peevish Authors page, when I stopped reading Mr. Anthony, his characters were having romantic entanglements at a younger and younger age.  This was getting way too weird for me.

~Laurell K. Hamilton: She is edging her way onto this list. You'll notice however that she is still on my recent readings list. Her most recent Anita Blake novel, Narcissus in Chains, was dreadful. How much sex, violence, masochism, and near-death experiences can one character have? My willing suspension of disbelief is suffering some misfortune where this series in concerned. I will read the next book when it comes out, but it had better be an improvement or Ms. Hamilton may take up residence on this list.
NOTE: I do recommend the first several novels of the Anita Blake series, but I'd stop reading after Obsidian Butterfly. And I haven't read her other, Merry Gentry, series.
